Comprehensive
eye exams.

A complete picture of your vision and eye health in one 45-minute visit. Prescription updates, retinal screening, and glaucoma testing, performed by doctors who have cared for Summerville families since 1972.

What to expect

One visit, a complete picture.

An annual eye exam is about more than reading letters off a chart. Your eyes offer a clear window into your overall health, and many conditions show signs there first. Here is how your visit unfolds, start to finish.

01

Health history & visual acuity

We review your health history, medications, and any changes you have noticed, then measure how clearly you see at distance and up close.

02

Prescription update

A precise refraction determines your exact prescription for glasses or contacts, fine-tuned by your doctor rather than a machine alone.

03

Eye-health screening

Using a slit lamp microscope, we examine the front structures of your eyes for cataracts, dryness, and corneal changes.

04

Dilated retinal exam

Dilating drops let us examine your retina, macula, and optic nerve for early signs of disease, including diabetes-related changes and macular degeneration.

05

Glaucoma testing

We measure your eye pressure and evaluate your optic nerve, catching glaucoma early, often years before it affects your vision.

Pricing & Insurance

A comprehensive eye exam is $105 without insurance. Most patients with vision insurance pay $0–$30 out of pocket. We file most major medical and vision plans, including BlueCross BlueShield, VSP, EyeMed, Spectera, Humana, and Community Eye Care Plan.

Not sure about your coverage? Call ahead and we will verify it before your visit.

Common questions

Before your visit.

How long does a comprehensive eye exam take? +
About 45 minutes start to finish. That covers visual acuity, your prescription update, eye-health screening, the dilated retinal exam, and glaucoma testing.
Will my eyes be dilated? +
Yes, dilation is part of a complete exam. Your eyes may be light-sensitive for three to four hours afterward, so bring sunglasses and consider having someone else drive if bright light bothers you.
How often should I have an eye exam? +
Once a year for most adults. If you have diabetes, glaucoma, or a strong family history of eye disease, we recommend twice yearly so changes are caught early.
Can I get my glasses or contacts the same day? +
You can browse frames and place your eyewear order immediately after your exam. Contact lens fittings are a separate exam so your lenses can be properly fitted and wear-tested.
